The Cape Ann Food Pantry

The Cape Ann Food Pantry provides a free, three to five day supply of emergency groceries once every fourteen days for residents of our service area who do not have enough food because they lack the resources to purchase it.

Our service area includes Gloucester, Rockport, Ipswich, Manchester and Essex. Clients from outside this service area should look for a food pantry that serves their own city or town.

Clients are asked to fill out a confidential form that helps the Food Pantry track its resources. They should be prepared to provide a name and birth date for each person receiving food in their household.

The food pantry is designed to provide one food order per household or shared kitchen. Persons residing in the same household and sharing a kitchen will receive food as ONE household.

INCOME GUIDELINES

We are a "choice pantry" offering a choice beginning with "Paper or plastic?" and moving on through each category so that the individual nutritional needs of the client are matched best from the selection available.

A client can expect staple items like cereal, soup, juice, vegetables, fruit, pasta, sauce, and prepared meals in a can such as stew or chili. In addition, we provide milk, eggs, meat, fresh produce, and bread as supplies lasts. There are giving guidelines based on the size of the household.

Buck-a-Bag
Bread, produce and pastry arranged in an open-market style every Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in The Open Door Dining Room. There are no restrictions to participation; anyone who is interested in saving money on surplus food is eligible. Clients can expect a wide variety of choice and some specialty items. Clients are asked to donate a dollar a bag towards the handling costs of transporting the food and running the program. People start lining up as early as noon. 80 to 100 bags are distributed weekly.
